Both are short so they are together: ADVANCED MOVEMENT then GHOST ACHIEVEMENT ADVANCED MOVEMENT I know fpses have tricks to move faster so I said that on my cliffhanger run that it may not be optimal, negoxe wrote about jumping while sprinting, and CaptCool added quake/hl2 bunnyhopping/strafe jumping or whatever its called, so I learned about mw2's engine and found its based on something similar to the same quake engine so I found tutorials on quake 3 and one of them worked, wall strafing. I chose a spot you can get to quickly, on the first level. I position myself next to the metal post and go towards the metallic things far away, between the two other props, the desk thing and the broken concrete thing. To get the view angle correctly I make the left side of the screen touch the left side of the tower on the background. For strafing I used similar guides (one is the truck and the other the posts). Strafing goes at different angles depending on you walking or sprinting. When walking its what I feel would be 45º (but i read the fov is 65 so it would be something like 32º) and while sprinting its the corner of your view. When walking (forward) it took 514 frames. When strafing (forward+strafe) it took 515 frames. If we consider my testing can't be plain perfect we can consider both walking or strafing to be the same speed. So you can add strafe to your movement without worries. When sprinting it took 344 frames. When adding strafe to the sprint it took 343 frames. When jumping while sprinting it took 346 frames. When jumping while strafe sprinting it took 346 frames too. Doing (trying to) the quake 3/hl2 bunnyhop it took 340 frames. My testing can't be perfect, so 344, 343 and 346 must all be the same speed. However, I never ever had gotten 340. So we can be sure bunnyhopping does get faster speeds, since I just learned the steps I must not be good at it, if you can record a fraps video of the same path I took here I can time it and see if bunnyhopping can be faster. Jumping doesn't spend sprint so sprint jumping is desired. Also, bunnyhopping is at least 1.2% faster than regular sprinting, but that if done well, people like me are better just sprinting. Every other attempt but that 340 was 5% slower than sprinting, add to that that I can't properly see where I am going. This level also has a nice spot with a long wall. Again guides were used to make sure the path was the same for all the tests. You go from the soldier that is leaning on the fence, to the fence on the other end, and make sure by going there and then backpedaling that you don't stray away from the fence. Backpedaling along the wall took 455 frames. Backpedaling while pushing the wall with strafe took 351 frames. Walking along the wall took 321 frames. Walking while pushing the wall with strafe took 286 frames. Sprinting along the wall took 213 frames. Sprinting while pushing the wall with strafe took 190 frames. Jumping while sprinting while pushing the wall with strafe took 220 frames. Sprinting while pushing the wall with strafe at an angle took 186 frames. This was nice, the gains are of 10% at least. This is called wall strafing, you run perpendicular to the wall and use strafe to push against it, then you get extra speed somehow. Perpendicular you don't get the best result, you get it at certain angle that I wouldn't be able to get because there were a lot of math formulas I didn't understand. But testing I think the one angle I tested is or is close to the fastest one (I tested many increments and this was the fastest, but of course I didn't test the angles in between later because it doesn't matter, you won't be able to run at an exact angle all the time). Backpedaling gets 22% boost, but you most likely won't be using it. Sprinting gets between ~11% and ~12.5% depending on your angle (check the video for the angle). Jumping however is not like the other cases, here it does go slower. I'll guess it's because wall strafing doesn't work while jumping or something like that. However jumping saves sprint time, so you have to choose between them as they are fit. It's not like the whole game is full of straight walls anyway but whatever. 1 frame is 1/60th of a second. GHOST ACHIEVEMENT This is the easiest path to the achievement, you'll notice it's the same path as the speedrun, just that I dont kill anyone. Make sure to wait or get the first soldier killed, then wait for the second to stop, if you don't wait he will notice you, then run a bit but stop running (or you will be heard, there are two soldiers in the area) then crouch and hide in that corner and wait for the one soldier to pass, then crouch slowly (tap the button) so that you don't make step sounds and wait for the group to go away, then walk around that area and once you are behind cover you can start sprinting towards the goal.
